Car Wash Project on Highway 64 No Longer Moving Forward
The Lakeland Municipal Planning & Design Review Commission addressed several development-related items during its regular meeting Thursday, March 12, at Lakeland City Hall.
Among the most notable actions, the commission voted to dissolve a previously approved Planned Development designation for property located at 8872 U.S. Highway 64. The decision effectively ends plans for a proposed car wash that had been approved for the site in 2022.
The project, which was slated to be a Glide Xpress Car Wash location, was planned for approximately five acres along the busy commercial corridor. The development proposal had originally received approval from the commission on Sept. 15, 2022.
According to a letter submitted to the city by James Herrington, manager for Glide Xpress, the company has decided not to move forward with the project and has formally withdrawn all development plans. The letter did not provide a reason for the company’s decision to abandon the proposal.
With the planned development designation now dissolved, the property will revert to its previous zoning classification. City officials noted that any future development of the site would require a new proposal and approval process through the city’s planning commission.
