Staff report

Bloomington, Indiana – March 8, 2026

A person, presumably the driver, was found dead early Sunday after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 69 near the 100 mile marker, according to scanner traffic, dispatch records, and a brief statement from Indiana State Police.

In a Facebook post Sunday morning, the Indiana State Police Bloomington District said, “The Indiana State Police has just opened the northbound and southbound passing lanes of I-69 near the 100 mile marker following a single-vehicle fatal crash investigation.”

State police did not immediately provide any additional details about the crash, including the identity of the driver, what led up to the wreck, or which direction the vehicle had been traveling.

Archived scanner traffic indicated that law enforcement had been looking for a red truck on I-69 before it was later found flipped on its side. The driver was then found deceased.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office dispatch traffic at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026, the truck was located around the 100 mile marker.

The 100 mile marker on I-69 is south of Bloomington, in the Greene County area, a little south of where I-69 enters Monroe County. Based on the exit numbering around Bloomington — Fullerton Pike at Exit 115 and Bloomfield Road at Exit 117 — mile marker 100 is roughly 15 miles south of the south side of Bloomington.

Earlier, at about 4:09 a.m., a call had gone out on a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office frequency reporting that a speeding truck was driving close to a guardrail. At 4:26 a.m., on a joint law-enforcement frequency, a dispatcher said there was possibly a deceased person at the crash scene.

Multiple agencies appeared to be involved in the response, including the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana State Police.

As of Sunday morning, no agency had released further information about the fatal crash.

The Bloomingtonian typically must rely on the Indiana State Police Bloomington District Facebook page for updates because, due to an ongoing software issue, ISP press releases from the Bloomington District have not been reaching us. We have raised the issue with Indiana State Police multiple times, but it has not been resolved. This has been going on several years, and also affects other news agencies in Bloomington.

We do get press releases from other ISP districts around the State of Indiana.

Unless another law enforcement agency provides more information, this is all that is currently available.
