Whirlpool’s KitchenAid brand won top honors at last month’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the nation’s top platform for appliance introductions.

A six-judge panel of decorators and interior designers were most wowed by KitchenAid’s smart double wall oven with live “look-in” camera, voting it Best in Show at the annual awards ceremony. The camera recognizes supported food types like whole chicken, cookies, bread, bacon and pizza, among others, allowing the oven to begin cooking without preheating, while Doneness Detection sensors monitor the meal’s progress and auto-adjust cook time as needed.

Owners can also use the live look-in feature to check on their food’s progress from their phone or the oven’s display screen, and can even create a shareable, time-lapse video of the entire cooking process once completed.

KitchenAid wasn’t the only appliance brand in the “Best of KBIS” spotlight. Three other white-goods lines were lauded, including:

“These awards encourage everyone from brand titans to emerging startups to show up with their best foot forward, and reward risk-taking, innovation and artistic flair,” said ceremony host Sarah Shelton, senior market editor of LUXE Interiors + Design magazine, the award series’ sponsor.

The “Best of KBIS” program was created to “celebrate the visionaries driving the latest trends and cutting-edge products, recognizing innovation, elegance, sustainability and all-around excellence,” KBIS said. This year, the judges discerned a number of distinct trends, including “a growing expansion into stylish outdoor living, a desire for simple but tech-forward solutions that improve everyday life, and prioritizing durability that extends the longevity of a beautiful home,” the panel reported.

Winners were announced last month before a packed house at the KBIS NEXTStage in Orlando.
