Felician University Ranks First in New Jersey on Newsweek’s Best Colleges for Women List

Felician University has claimed the top spot for women in New Jersey in Newsweek’s “America’s Best Colleges for Women 2026” rankings. The Catholic Franciscan school landed at No. 30 out of 751 schools nationwide.

Newsweek worked with Gender Fair to create these rankings. Schools were judged across four categories: leadership, pay and policies, safety, and opportunity. The system draws from the Women’s Empowerment Principles.

The school scored 76.1 overall. It earned 75 for leadership, 86 for pay and policy, 94 for safety, and 48 for opportunity.

Women comprise 72% of undergraduates and 62% of faculty. Three out of four academic deans are women. A female president runs the school.

“This recognition from Newsweek is a meaningful affirmation of our mission,” said Dr. Mildred Mihlon, president of the school according to EZNewswire.com. “We are proud to continue educating, supporting, and mentoring future women leaders through the foundational principles of our Felician core values.”

The rankings draw data from the U.S. Department of Education. This includes the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the Campus Safety and Security Database. Only institutions meeting specific criteria for size and academic roles made the cut.

Jennifer H. Cunningham, editor-in-chief of Newsweek, said the list helps students find schools that prioritize gender equity. “America’s Best Colleges for Women highlights institutions that are making measurable progress in leadership, equity, safety, and opportunity, helping students identify environments where women are supported and positioned to succeed,” Cunningham said.

The co-educational institution serves more than 2,700 students. These students span undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs. Four schools make up the academic structure: Arts & Sciences, Business & Information Sciences, Nursing, and Education.

The Master of Science in Nursing program stands among the best online graduate nursing programs in the country. The school runs campuses in Rutherford and Lodi.
