Candidate questionnaires: Loudon Select Board

Roger Bilodeau and Leslie Seaboyer are running for an open seat on the Loudon Select Board after current board member Jeff Miller did not file for reelection.

Seaboyer, a former corrections officer who now runs a gunsmith shop, has lived in Loudon since 2018. He identifies as a conservative and said he’d work to reduce costs and maximize the impact of tax dollars.

The Monitor sent questionnaires to all select board and school board candidates running in towns within our coverage area. Bilodeau did not submit a form upon request.

What is your occupation or experience?

Seaboyer: 20 years in corrections, over 15 years in financial services, realtor for five years, owner of Thorr Gunsmithing since 2015.

Why are you running and what do you see as the most pressing issues in town?

Seaboyer: I am running because sitting on the sidelines is not the answer. I believe my 68 years of life experience can be used as a benefit. Public education costs are the biggest challenge. It is not the teachers salaries that are the issue, it is the fact that schools have drifted far from their core of educating students in the fundamental skills needed in adulthood. Math, science, civics, reading, writing (in cursive) use of the wealth of knowledge in books — not the internet — independent analytical thought, reasoning and problem solving, along with how to manage a bank account.

What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected?

Seaboyer: Work as a team member with my fellow selectmen in moving the town of Loudon forward in a positive way, reducing costs where and when possible, and working with all departments and department heads in maximizing the return on citizens’ monies spent.
