The network, which grew from systems integration firm Curling Stadium, provides production services for USA Curling and World Curling. John Benton, Stadium Sports Network founder-CTO, said the company needed to move beyond previous PTZ cameras to meet the standards of linear television.
Stadium Sports Network used the Telycam cameras during the U.S. Curling Trials held in S.D. in November 2025. The event — which determined the teams representing the U.S. at the winter games in Italy — was broadcast on USA Network and the Peacock streaming service.
“When we were working on the Olympic curling trials, it was crucial that the cameras could handle the lighting, exposure and focusing challenges of shooting on a 200-foot sheet of ice,” Benton said.
Benton, a former Olympian, selected the Explore XE cameras for their 1-inch sensors. During the event, the network used three units as primary cameras — two positioned overhead and one on the field of play. The cameras output NDI HX3 streams transported over a 10Gbps fiber network. The production center used a vMix switcher, Singular Live HTML5 graphics and a Behringer X32 mixing console.
Benton said the Telycam units outperformed more expensive broadcast cameras the company had previously rented for events in Colo.
“Telycam’s auto-exposure and focus management absolutely blew the more expensive cameras we rented out of the water,” Benton said. “What we got in terms of quality with the Telycam cameras is unbelievable.”
Benton said the user interface makes it simple to match exposure and color temperature between cameras. He plans to purchase additional units as the company expands its footprint in sports production.
“Cost-effective gear and the reduced labor level allow us to bid these events out at a price point that nobody can beat,” Benton said.
