Bloomington, Indiana – February 25, 2026

MONROE COUNTY — First responders from the Monroe Fire Protection District, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and local EMS agencies were called to a multiple-vehicle crash around 6:19 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of South Rockport Road and South Acorn Drive.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said on it’s Facebook page, “Regarding the accident on S. Rockport Road. Some other social media sites have posted the deceased victim of the crash was a child. The deceased individual is not a child. We will have an official release once the Monroe County Crash Investigation Team has completed the investigation and briefing.”

The wreck remained under investigation Wednesday night. Any additional information about injuries, a fatality, and the identity of those involved is expected to come from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and, if applicable, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office. This story will be updated when additional verified information is released. First responders need some time to work at the scene, write reports, basically do their jobs, and then they will provide information to the public.
