Borough man accused of setting off ‘quarter stick’ in town, busting window

SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man is facing charges after borough police say he set off a “quarter stick” firework and broke a window.

Thomas Salvadore, 51, of West Coal Street, was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and summary harassment for the incident.

According to the criminal complaint filed Tuesday by Patrolman Mark Hysock of the Shenandoah Borough Police Department, officers were called to the 400 block of West Atlantic Street for a report of a loud explosion.

There, a window had been smashed and smoke filled the street.

A dark colored pickup truck was seen on security camera footage driving through the area when the driver, police said, dropped a “device” out of the driver side window.

That device exploded and smashed the window of a home on Atlantic Street.

Hysock said he identified the driver as Salvadore, who he alleged admitted to being the driver and the one responsible for “dropping a ‘quarter stick’ firework.”

According to the criminal complaint, Salvadore said he “should’ve never dropped this firework in town and was just trying to have fun.”

The damage to the window was estimated at $580.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 2 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.
