Baxter County man charged with rape

A Baxter County man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he inappropriately touched a minor.
According to the probable cause affidavit, 55-year-old Matthew Randolph Balsdon has been charged with rape, a Class Y felony under Arkansas law. Investigators allege the offense occurred on or about Oct. 15, 2025, in Baxter County and involved inappropriate sexual contact with a minor.

The case stems from a forensic interview conducted at a child advocacy center in Mountain Home, which led investigators to file an affidavit for probable cause in Baxter County Circuit Court.

Balsdon was taken into custody earlier this month. Authorities say he also faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest stemming from the incident that occurred when officers attempted to arrest him.

Bond has been set at $100,000 on the rape charge, with additional $515 bond imposed on the resisting arrest charge.

Court records also indicate a probation violation has been filed, though details of that allegation were not immediately available.
