Master Gardeners to host Ozark Green Thumb gardening seminar March 14

As spring approaches, gardeners across the Twin Lakes Area are preparing for a new growing season. To help kick things off, the Baxter County Master Gardeners will host the annual Developing an Ozarks Green Thumb seminar Saturday, March 14, from 9 to 3 at First Baptist Church’s Christian Life Center in Mountain Home.

The day-long event will offer much more than classroom-style instruction. Attendees can browse a variety of garden-themed items at live and silent auctions, shop gently used gardening books, and visit displays showcasing Master Gardener projects. KTLO News spoke with Master Gargener Tommy Hagan, who explains how fun the event is.

Another session will address integrated pest management and maintaining balance in the garden, offering practical strategies for managing pests while protecting plant health.

Keynote speaker Scott Beuerlein of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden will present two programs. One will explore the importance of plant diversity and how mixing species can improve the strength and appearance of a garden. His second presentation will highlight the role of annual plants and how they can provide continuous color and interest throughout the growing season.

Registration for the seminar is $40 and includes lunch. Seating is limited, and organizers encourage early registration.

The event will be held at First Baptist Church’s Christian Life Center, located at 1205 Spring Street in Mountain Home. More information and registration details are available http://uada.formstack.com/forms/ozarks_green_thumb.
