Regional projects receiving more than $2M in federal funding

DRUMS – Two projects in east-central Pennsylvania are receiving federal funding, U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser (R-9) announced recently.

In Luzerne County, $700,000 is going toward the reconstruction of just over a mile of Old Airport Road in Butler Township, near Hazleton.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Congressman Meuser for securing $700,000 for improvements to Old Airport Road in Butler Township,” said Romilda Crocamo, County Manager of Luzerne County.

Elsewhere, in Northumberland County, the Shamokin-Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority is receiving $1.4 Million to support wastewater infrastructure upgrades.

Planned improvements there include replacing aging equipment and installing a new headworks grit chamber to prevent damage to the system.

“While wastewater infrastructure often goes unseen, it is critical to public health and environmental protection,” Meuser said. “This funding will help keep costs manageable for local families, ensure reliable sewage treatment, and further protect our environment. I look forward to seeing this project move forward and the positive impact it will have for the Shamokin-Coal Township community.”

“Grants are very competitive, and we know funding is tight for everyone. These grants not only allow us to keep our plant within DEP guidelines, but they also allow us to keep our sewer rates in check, which allows people to keep more of their hard-earned money in their pocket,” Shamokin-Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority’s General Manager Paul A. Petrovich said.
