LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — February 10, 2026

An Indiana State Police trooper was seriously injured early Monday morning after being struck by another police vehicle while approaching a stopped suspect vehicle following a pursuit, police said.

Trooper Jace Haddon was assisting the Lake County Sheriff’s Department around 3:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, with an active vehicle pursuit on Interstate 80 near Kennedy Avenue that began over a reported traffic violation, according to Indiana State Police at the Lowell Post.

Police said the fleeing vehicle exited the interstate at Cline Avenue, where Haddon joined the pursuit near Cline Avenue and Ridge Road. During the pursuit, Haddon performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

As Haddon approached the suspect vehicle on foot, he was struck by another police vehicle, ISP said.

Haddon was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries. He has since been released and is expected to face a lengthy recovery, police said.

“We are thankful that Trooper Haddon is expected to make a full recovery,” Lt. Weems, commander of the Lowell Post, said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing.
