Comcast, Xfinity expand service in region

DELANO – A telecomms giant is expanding service in northeastern Schuylkill County and portions of the surrounding area.

Comcast announced this week that more than 8,800 homes in the area — including in Delano Township, Kline Township, Hazle Township, the Tamaqua area, and more — can now use Xfinity or Comcast Business service.

The network buildout, which is moving through the Schuylkill Valley with Kaska eyed next, offers high-speed internet and more, Comcast said in a release.

“We’re grateful that Comcast’s investments in Schuylkill County have brought us cutting-edge Xfinity and Comcast Business services,” Schuylkill County Commissioners Chairman Larry Padora said in a media release. “It’s important to provide our community with the best options for secure WiFi and affordable mobile — delivering speed and reliability to the parents who work from home, the students who learn online, and the local businesses that serve our community.”

“Our continued growth in Carbon, Columbia, Luzerne, and Schuylkill counties underscores our commitment to delivering the ultimate WiFi experience throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Comcast Regional Senior Vice President. “With multi-gigabit speeds powered by our advanced network, cost-saving wireless options through Xfinity Mobile, and a five-year price guarantee on Xfinity Internet, we’re giving residents powerful new ways to stay connected, productive, and entertained.”

Comcast says they’ve connected parts of Blythe, Delano, East Norwegian, Kline, Rush, Schuylkill, and Walker townships in Schuylkill County along with the boroughs of McAdoo, Middleport, New Philadelphia, and Tamaqua.

The village of Kaska in Blythe Township will be connected by the Spring, Comcast says. Also connected are portions of Hazle Township in Luzerne County and Banks Township in Carbon County.

Comcast is planning to expand through central Columbia County, beginning in Mifflin Township and moving through North Centre, Orange, Scott, and South Centre townships with future expansion eyed for Bloomsburg town and Danville borough.
