Following the deadly attack at a school mass in the Church of the Annunciation in Minneapolis, the community is continuing to heal.

On Saturday, the community is holding one of its largest fundraisers of the year: Dancing with the Annunciation Stars.

The fundraiser aims to support mental health services, school counselors, and other essential resources.

“There is insurance, there’s federal and state aid, but all those things run out,” Michael Burt, co-chair of the event, explained. “This is a long recovery and so we’re addressing that gap, addressing mental health service needs, professional growth, classroom resources for additional aides and additional counselors.”

A yearly event, the dance typically features five parents of the school and one teacher paired up with a professional, practing dancing for 12 weeks.

This year, however, the event will feature five parents and Lt. Ryan Kelly from the Minneapolis Police Department, who was the first responder on site during the Annunciation Church shooting last year.

Tickets for the event are sold out, but those looking to support Annunciation can still do so by making an online donation.
