The partnership, announced Monday, combines PMM’s 10-year track record in public television master control with LTN’s multicast IP network, which is currently used by major commercial broadcasters for real-time video distribution.
PMM Cloud was developed to help stations navigate increasing financial pressures, aging on-premises infrastructure, and a tightening pool of engineering talent. The solution aims to modernize operations without sacrificing on-air quality or local editorial control.
“Selecting the right technology partner was critical, and we went through a rigorous RFP process to ensure PMM Cloud would meet the real-world needs of public media stations,” said Marc Hand, CEO of Public Media Management.
Hand noted that the LTN infrastructure allows stations the flexibility to either automate day-to-day operations or maintain hands-on control over schedules and workflows. The service includes 24/7/365 monitoring and oversight via a Network Operations Center (NOC).
Built on a cloud-first architecture, the platform promises 99.9% reliability and sub-200 ms latency. Because the system is delivered as a fully managed service, stations can shift away from significant capital investments in traditional master control hardware, requiring only a single on-site gateway for bi-directional connectivity.
LTN’s network currently manages nearly 8,000 channels and millions of live events annually. By leveraging this commercial-grade infrastructure, PMM Cloud integrates core operations — including scheduling, traffic and linear playback — while supporting modern workflows such as digital streaming, video-on-demand (VOD) and advanced branding.
The platform is also designed to be “future-ready” for emerging technologies, including the ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard.
“With increasing financial pressure across the public media system, delivering reliable and affordable transport and master control solutions has never been more important,” said Rick Young, LTN senior vice president and head of global products.
The launch of PMM Cloud expands PMM’s portfolio, offering a cloud-native alternative alongside its existing PMM Classic service.
