Donations from hunting and fishing license buyers to Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry have officially topped $1 million, boosted by more than $18,800 collected in December.
The contributions, often just a dollar or two at a time, are made at checkout when purchasing licenses, magazine subscriptions, or other products through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s online system.
“Hunters in Arkansas have responded with amazing generosity,” said Ronnie Ritter, AHFH president. “It started with a simple $1 donation option, but now people can give $5, $10, or more.”
AHFH receives 100 percent of the donations submitted through the AGFC system, which funds gas and labor to deliver ground venison to food banks and reimburse processors for packaging donated deer.
Fresh meat is among the most requested, yet rarest, items at food banks. AHFH provides nearly 100,000 pounds of venison annually, equaling roughly 400,000 servings of meat for Arkansans in need.
“Hunters can donate entire deer through participating processors, helping feed families and support their local wildlife management,” Ritter said.
Jeremy Brown, Deer Management Assistance Program coordinator for the AGFC, said donations also help hunters manage deer herds and preserve habitat.
