Healthgrades examined clinical performance at 4,500 medical centers. They studied more than 30 common procedures and conditions. The group reviewed Medicare inpatient data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, spanning 2022 through 2024.
The list identifies three tiers of achievement. America’s 250 Best Hospitals represents the top 5% of facilities nationwide, while the 100 Best category captures the top 2%, and the 50 Best category marks the top 1%.
“This year’s America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently, helping them understand their options, and feel confident in choosing the care that’s right for them,” Dr. Alana Biggers, medical advisor at Healthgrades, said in a statement, according to NJBiz.com.
Five Garden State facilities earned spots in the top 100 rankings. Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune joined the two Atlantic Health System locations in this category.
Both Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center have kept their positions as the only two facilities in New Jersey named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals for three consecutive years. Morristown has appeared in the 50 Best category for 11 straight years. The Summit facility has held the distinction for seven years running.
“These recognitions reinforce what Atlantic Health patients experience every day — our unwavering commitment to deliver safe, high-quality care,” Saad Ehtisham, president and CEO of Atlantic Health, said in a statement.
Seven additional facilities received America’s 250 Best designation. These include Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro, Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, and Ocean University Medical Center in Brick.
Valley Hospital has received the America’s 100 Best Hospital Award for four consecutive years. “It is an honor to be recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for a fourth time, particularly in our 75th anniversary year,” Dr. Robert Brenner, president and CEO of Valley Health, said in a statement.
Healthgrades found that 46% of Americans live more than 25 miles from one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals. Fourteen states lack a facility that performs in the top 5%.
