TSA to launch new ID process for people without REAL ID or other acceptable ID
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new ID option for air travelers.
Starting on Feb. 1, airline passengers without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of ID at a TSA checkpoint will have the option to use ConfirmID, an alternate identity verification process.
ConfirmID allows travelers to pay a $45 fee to verify their identity, which is valid for 10 days. TSA says the identification process typically takes 10-15 minutes, but it may take 30 minutes or more.
Officials recommend paying the fee before arriving at the airport, which you can do by clicking here.
TSA’s website notes that ConfirmID is optional. If you choose not to use it and don’t have an acceptable ID, you may not be allowed through security.
