A spokesperson for Rep. Omar told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she had no known prior contact with Anthony Kazmierczak, 55. Kazmierczak was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and remains in custody at the Hennepin County Jail as of this report.
The FBI is leading the investigation, a Minneapolis police spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
Kazmierczak has no recent criminal history in Minnesota and appears to live in Minneapolis, according to court records.
On social media, Kazmierczak expressed support for President Donald Trump and was critical of former President Joe Biden. In one post, he referred to Democrats as “angry and liars.” Several other posts were racially charged.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty commented on the case during an unrelated virtual community briefing.
“What I can report is we are working with law enforcement on that, the Minneapolis Police Department. I believe the preliminary reports that we have is that what was sprayed on people was not toxic,” said Moriarty.

“We are reviewing our charging options, and I’m also hearing that the federal government might charge the man as well.”
Attempts to contact possible family or neighbors of Kazmierczak were unsuccessful on Wednesday. Given he’s not been charged with a crime at this point, it’s unclear whether Kazmierczak has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
