Baxter Health prepared for incoming winter storm

Baxter Health officials say they are ready as winter weather moves into the area this weekend.
Hospital leaders wrapped up a planning meeting to make sure the hospital and health system can continue operating through the storm. Anthony Reed, Vice President of Ancillary Services, says preparation is key with several moving parts involved.

From a patient standpoint, staff will work to safely discharge as many patients as possible before the weather hits, though some may need to stay longer if travel becomes difficult.

Reed says essential employees will be required to report to work once the inclement weather policy is in effect. Department leaders are contacting staff now, and space will be available inside the hospital for employees who need to stay overnight. Baxter Health is also working with local hotels for discounted rates and has set up sleeping areas throughout the facility.

KTLO News spoke with Brandon Ellison, head of the engineering and maintenance crew at Baxter Health, who discusses their plans for the parking lots.

Staff with four wheel drive vehicles will also help transport coworkers who may have trouble getting in, when possible.

Officials say Baxter Health will remain open throughout the storm and will provide regular updates to KTLO. Anyone in need of care is encouraged to come in, and residents are reminded to stay safe as the storm moves in.
