A driver hauling around 3,000 gallons of milk in a tanker was trapped for over an hour after crashing in Monroe County, Wisconsin on Wednesday.

As first reported by KSTP’s sister station, WXOW, the tanker was heading east on Highway 33 in Jefferson — about 30 miles east of La Crosse — when the milk tanker left the roadway while trying to navigate a curve and tipped into a ditch.

The driver, a 22-year-old Florida man, was injured and trapped inside the vehicle for an hour before he was safely removed and taken to the hospital.

An estimated 3,000 gallons of milk and around 100 gallons of diesel fuel are believed to have been spilled from the tanker. Efforts were made to prevent the liquids from reaching a nearby creek.

The driver’s condition is currently unknown.
