Frackville to receive more funding for Lehigh Avenue improvements

FRACKVILLE – The “Mountain City” is receiving another hefty state grant to improve its downtown corridor.

Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Senator Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill) announced a $335,000 grant for streetscape improvements on North Lehigh Avenue in Frackville.

The grant is through the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“We want to thank Rep. Twardzik and Sen. Argall for helping secure this grant for us,” said Patricia Domalakes, president of the Frackville Economic Development Taskforce. “It will give us safer sidewalks on Lehigh Avenue, which we desperately need. Likewise, it will beautify Lehigh Avenue with trees and new lighting and aid in our revitalization efforts for downtown Frackville.”

“Upgrading our roads and streetscapes strengthens safety, accessibility and local business districts,” Twardzik said. “I’m proud Schuylkill County communities will see real benefits from this investment, supporting both everyday travel and long-term economic growth.”

The legislators say the funding continues Frackville’s downtown revitalization, adding to $670,000 already awarded to the state for streetscape work.

“Improved roads and streetscapes are key to breathing new life into our older downtowns,” Argall said. “I am pleased these local communities were awarded this highly sought-after funding to support economic development and improve safety for residents and visitors.”

Also awarded was a $241,611 grant to resurface Ann Street in Saint Clair’s East Mines section.

“We are pleased to receive this funding for Ann Street improvements,” said Roland Price, Saint Clair Borough manager. “This project represents a major win for our borough and an important investment in our community’s infrastructure and the quality of life and safety of those who live along this busy stretch of road.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund was created by the General Assembly to provide funding that encourages economic development and a safe, reliable system of transportation to Pennsylvania residents.
