
On Tuesday, a crash involving a semi and a vehicle killed a 16-year-old driver and seriously injured the 16-year-old passenger in the same car.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office says that deputies responded to a crash at 3:23 p.m. at the intersection of 320th Street and Foliage Avenue in Greenvale Township, near Northfield, and found the two people in the Lexus unresponsive.
Berlyn Berghuis, 16, of Northfield, the driver, was dead at the scene. The passenger, 16-year-old Anabelle Martinez, was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. The sheriff’s office says that the driver of the semi was not hurt.
Preliminary information is that the driver of the semi was driving westbound on 320th Street when it collided with the Lexus that was attempting to turn east on 320th Street from Foliage Avenue, the press release says.
The crash is under investigation.
