A Minnesota man detained by federal immigration twice this week says the encounter left him shaken and worried about the impact on his community.

Garrison Gibson, a 38-year-old from Liberia, has lived legally in Minnesota for two decades but was arrested twice this week by ICE, according to his attorney.

Court documents show a judge found agents violated his rights by entering his home without a judicial warrant and failing to explain why they revoked his supervision.

In a statement, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said:

“Thanks to an activist judge’s ruling this criminal illegal alien is loose on Minnesota’s streets. ICE lawfully arrested Garrison William Gibson, a criminal illegal alien from Liberia in Operation Metro Surge. His lengthy rap sheet includes robbery, drug possession with the intent to sell, possession of a deadly weapon, malicious destruction and theft. He has had a final order of removal from an immigration judge since 2023. This is yet another activist judges trying to obstruct the American people’s mandate to remove criminal illegal aliens from American communities. We will continue to fight for the arrest, detention, and removal of aliens who have no right to be in this country.”

Prior to that statement, Gibson disputed criminal characterizations, and Minnesota court documents only show a dismissed drug paraphernalia charge.

“I’m not a violent person,” Gibson said. “If I was a violent person, I would not have been out these past 17 years checking in.”

He says for now, he’s staying home as much as he can and holding his family tight.

“What do you want the community to take away from what you experienced?” asked 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reporter KaMaria Braye.

“They’re terrorizing people,” Gibson said. “Tearing families apart.”
