THE ROOM STARRING TOMMY WISEAU

Friday, February 20 at 7:30pm | John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium

The Annual Interactive Screening of the Cult Classic Returns to Bloomington with a New Presenter!

Bloomington, IN “Oh Hai, Bloomington!”

The once-in-a-generation CAMP CLASSIC returns to BTown on Friday, February 20 at the John Waldron Arts Center. Featuring a bonkers plot, endlessly quotable lines, bizarre acting, and some of the most “intense” football action in movie history, The Room is a masterpiece of WTF cinema that demands to be seen with a large group. If you’ve seen The Disaster Artist, the hit movie documenting The Room‘s catastrophic production, you have to experience the original!

Presenting this year’s screening will be Gabe Gloden, Managing Director of Constellation Stage & Screen and the host of previous screenings at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and Waldron Arts Center. Previously presented by Constellation, Gloden is excited to take over presenting duties this year to maintain the annual tradition. Operating independently as Scotchka Entertainment (named after the very “sus” alcoholic beverage consumed in one of the film’s most memorable scenes), this year’s screening will feature all the fun and interactivity of Constellation’s previous presentations.

“I’m thrilled to keep the tradition alive. I’ve been hosting screenings of The Room for nearly ten years now, and I love seeing the reactions from first-time attendees,” says Gloden. “For many, it’s the most fun they will have in a movie theater all year, and it’s definitely a movie that needs to be seen with an audience.”

The Room has screened for decades at rep theaters across the country, becoming one of the biggest cult films of all time. This is your chance to catch it on the big screen the way it was intended to be seen… with a big group of friends during a night out. Come see what the fuss is all about… Or are you a little chicken? Cheep-chip-chip-Cheep-Cheep!

Before the screening begins, the presenter will be host a short pre-show event, including a Room quotation contest for individuals and pairs.

To add an extra layer of fun, bags of plastic spoons are available to be used for priceless moments of audience interaction.

“As legend dictates, the production team that was tasked with decorating the set purchased a number of picture frames from local home goods stores, but instead of removing the stock imagery, they kept them in, including a prominent one that features a photo of some spoons,” explains Gloden. “To celebrate, every time you see the photo of the spoon in film, audience members throw a spoon towards the screen!”

The screening will conveniently feature on-screen prompts for when the spoons should be hurled, and the spoon bags will have the exact number of spoons needed for each spoon appearance (21 total!). Attendees are encouraged to purchase a ticket that includes a spoon bag in advance as supplies will be limited. Additional spoon bags available for a $3 add-on purchase in the lobby before the show (while supplies last).

It’s going to be a party, so invite all of your friends (“Good thinking!”). Or are you a little chicken? Cheep-chip-chip-Cheep-Cheep!
