A parent was reportedly arrested and taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Wednesday morning while waiting for the bus with their child in Crystal.
An email obtained by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS from Northport Elementary School Principal Bridget Dooley to district staff and family members of students stated that ICE agents reportedly detained a parent while they were waiting for the bus to come and pick up their child for school.
The school said the children on the bus and at the bus stop at the time of the encounter likely saw what had happened, and added that all students, including the one whose parent was arrested, were able to safely board the bus.
“We recognize this news can create fear, confusion, and anxiety for students and for adults,” Principal Dooley wrote in the email. “School psychologists, social workers, and other support staff will be available to provide counseling and support for any students or staff who need it.”
The school added that the bus driver, school, and district administration followed safety protocols established by the school district.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reached out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for more information on the arrest. Check back for updates,
