BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — January 13, 2026

The City of Bloomington is leaning into Hoosier fever — and a streak of local whimsy — by giving the retention pond at Miller-Showers Park a temporary, honorary nickname: “D’Angelo’s Pond.” City officials said the informal name will be recognized through the end of the week, after what the city described as a “standout Peach Bowl performance” by Indiana University football and a social-media push that “refused to be ignored.”

The nod references IU defensive back D’Angelo Ponds.

The city emphasized the change is strictly symbolic: no maps will be updated and no new signage will be installed. The feature remains a stormwater retention pond. City officials also used the moment to highlight the pond’s function at the downtown park, which includes stormwater infrastructure designed to hold runoff, reduce flooding impacts during heavy rain, and improve water quality.

The temporary nickname arrives as Bloomington and IU fans look ahead to the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, Jan. 19, when Indiana will play Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
