Maker-focused store expands downtown in new space

What began as a small downtown shop for makers has tripled in size in a new location.

Bobbi Clayton has opened Wild Peach & Co. inside the Harvester Building, 196 E. Sixth St., in the former space that was JuLiana’s Boutique La Femme.

She previously was a co-founder at The Maker’s Circle, which opened last year in The Cascade building on North Phillips Avenue and has closed.

Clayton, a former salon owner, used to work at Unglued, a makers’ store that expanded from Fargo to Sioux Falls but closed here several years ago. She’s also a maker specializing in jewelry through Wild Peach Creative.

“This opportunity presented itself, and I said, ‘Yeah, let’s go,’” she said, adding that the expanded space allows her to take on more makers and hold more events.

“I never in a million years thought I had enough furniture to fill it, but apparently I was quite crammed into that other space,” she said.

Wild Peach & Co. sells work from more than 30 makers and has room for more.

Clayton especially is looking for “approachable” artwork, apparel, accessories, home decor, baby and children’s items and pet items.

She’d especially like to find Sioux Falls-themed apparel.

“We need people, but it will come,” she said, adding that she’s selective about the makers she carries in the store. She recently added a cooler for fresh flowers, premade arrangements and other items.

Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Clayton also plans to hold pop-up events at the shop that will feature additional makers on the same days as the winter version of the Falls Park Farmers Market. That’s held twice a month through April at Mosaic Arts & Events.

“I thought we’re so close to Mosaic it would be nice to bounce off each other,” she said.
