The certificate, which is essential for the apps to launch and maintain inter-process communications, expired unexpectedly, rendering both applications inaccessible to thousands of Mac users.
The outage, which impacted the last four macOS versions, macOS 26 Tahoe, macOS 15 Sequoia, macOS 14 Sonoma, and macOS 13 Ventura, created significant workflow disruptions for users relying on Logitech’s device management software.
The certificate expiration was particularly critical because it disabled the in-app updater, preventing automatic remediation and forcing users to intervene manually.
Logitech has swiftly released a patch installer to address the issue across both affected applications. The company emphasized that users should not uninstall either application, as doing so may result in loss of device settings and customizations.
Instead, affected users should download the updated patch installer directly from Logitech’s support portal and run it locally on their systems.
The installation process is straightforward: users simply download the patch, run the installer, and the application will automatically relaunch with full functionality restored.
Notably, all existing device settings, profiles, and customizations remain intact throughout the patching process, with no user intervention required beyond initial installation.
According to Logitech’s official statement, the expired certificate does not pose a security vulnerability during the non-functional state.
The certificate is specifically used to secure inter-process communications rather than external network connectivity, meaning the outage was not network-related and also impacted offline-deployed versions of Options+.
Logitech’s support team clarified that the offline installer used for mass-deployment scenarios was similarly affected by the certificate expiration.
The company is developing an update to address this deployment method, but has not provided a specific timeline for its availability.
While the patch resolves the issue for recent macOS versions, Logitech indicated that users operating older versions of macOS will receive a fix at a later date.
The company has encouraged affected users to contact its support team for additional assistance, reaffirming its commitment to resolving the disruption and preventing similar incidents in the future.
