On Monday, the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Daniel Rosen, announced that a man was charged with assaulting ICE agents.
54-year-old Juan Carlos Rodriguez Romero, whom the Rosen says is a Cuban national, is charged by indictment with two counts of assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault on a federal officer.
The charges stem from an incident on Dec. 21 in St. Paul.
According to the press release, ICE agents tried to arrest Rodriguez Romero during a traffic stop, but he did not obey commands and drove off, hitting two parked cars and losing control of his vehicle. ICE agents again tried to arrest him, but Rodriguez Romero drove his car towards the agents, hitting one of them, who fired his weapon toward Rodriguez Romero.
While officers were taking him into custody, the press release says that he bit one of the federal officers, drawing blood.
Two ICE agents were taken to the hospital with bruised ribs, a dislocated finger, and a bite wound, the authorities say.
Rodriguez Romero faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
