Adagio Teas shifted operations to an 80,000-square-foot warehouse in East Rutherford. Why the move? The company is branching out. Tea remains their focus, but coffee, spices, and honey now fill the shelves too. This direct-to-consumer seller plans to bring in workers and set up production equipment at the site.

The warehouse dwarfs their old Elmwood Park spot — four times bigger, to be exact. Staff will join the team next year to operate coffee roasting and packaging lines, which feature 20-ton silos alongside a 60-kilogram roaster.

“We were busting at the seams in our old location,” CEO Michael Cramer said in a news release. “Our new warehouse is four times the size of the prior one, and avails space to undertake projects that had been stymied for years.”

Sofya Kreymerman and her sons, Michael Cramer and Ilya Kreymerman, launched this venture 26 years ago in a Fair Lawn basement. The family operation has relocated several times, touching down in Clifton and Garfield before landing here.

Shoppers can buy loose-leaf teas, blends, herbal infusions, teaware, and accessories from the retailer. Custom blends? Yes. Subscriptions and samplers? Those too.

Three new brands have sprouted up. Coffee goes by Lardera. Spices carry the Selefina name. Honey bottles bear Apille labels. Fresh packaging machinery at the Murray Hill Parkway location will push these product lines forward.

Equipment purchases will also power extraction and concentration processes for tea and coffee, creating Presto — a line of liquid concentrates that come in single-serve portions. This marks yet another expansion for the e-commerce operation.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Small Business Fund backed a 2016 relocation to Elmwood Park, according to NJBIZ. The NJEDA teamed up with M&T Bank to fund equipment upgrades and operational improvements.

That backing let the business ramp up production, sharpen efficiency and expand its workforce from three to 50 employees.
