Remembering firefighter Timothy Bertz
A public memorial was held Monday in honor of St. Paul firefighter Timothy Bertz, who died last week after suffering a “serious medical event” while at his home.
A private gathering was held at Fort Snelling, followed by a procession from Mall of America to Maranatha Church in Forest Lake, where the memorial service took place.

Flags were ordered at half-staff all day in his honor, as well.
Bertz served the country as a Navy SEAL before starting his firefighting career in 2017 with the Harris Fire Department, SPFD says. From there, he joined the Lino Lakes Fire Department and had just graduated from the St. Paul Fire Academy last Wednesday, Dec. 17, which the department said fulfilled a dream of his.
Bertz leaves behind a wife, Andrea.
