BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — December 26, 2025

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies pursued a stolen Chevrolet Equinox onto the grounds of the Monroe County Airport on Christmas Day before losing sight of the vehicle in Greene County and later finding it abandoned, authorities said.

Deputies spotted the black Equinox — reported stolen to the Bloomington Police Department the day before — around 4:41 p.m. near South Rogers Street and South Rockport Road and attempted a traffic stop, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release. The driver did not stop, prompting a pursuit that continued to the west side of Monroe County.

At the intersection of West Gifford Road and South Kirby Road, the Equinox continued straight through the intersection and drove into the main entrance of the Monroe County Airport, the release said. Deputies said the vehicle drove through an interior security gate near the control tower and onto the tarmac before exiting airport property by driving through a fence along Kirby Road and continuing into Greene County.

After attempts to deploy tire-deflation devices were unsuccessful, the pursuing deputy lost visual contact with the Equinox and terminated the pursuit, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies later located the vehicle unoccupied behind a residence on East State Road 54 in Greene County. A Bloomington Police Department K-9 was used to track the suspect, but the effort was unsuccessful, according to the release. BPD towed the Equinox as part of its stolen-vehicle investigation.

An update from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office indicated the suspect — whose image has been captured on several security cameras, including one at Eastern Greene Fire Territory, and circulated on social media — may also have stolen a Ford F-250 and may be in possession of a firearm, the release said. Authorities said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or location, or with video footage, is asked to email mbrowning@co.monroe.in.us. Authorities said members of the public should not attempt to approach the suspect.
