BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — December 25, 2025

A suspected impaired driver led Indiana State Police on a Christmas evening pursuit from Monroe County into Lawrence County, where the vehicle crashed and the driver was reported trapped and unresponsive, according to scanner traffic monitored by The Bloomingtonian.

The incident began around 6:40 p.m. Dec. 25 after an ISP trooper attempted to stop a Buick with Tennessee license plates on Ind. 37. Over the radio, the trooper described the vehicle as “all over the road,” and the situation escalated into a pursuit after the driver did not stop.

Scanner traffic indicated the Buick turned onto Old Ind. 37 at the Johnny Junction area and continued southbound through Judah. The roadway was reported as dry.

The pursuit continued from Monroe County into Lawrence County, with the vehicle traveling past the Kentucky Hollow area and nearing the dead-end portion of Old Ind. 37, scanner traffic indicated.

At about 6:48 p.m., the trooper could be heard yelling for the driver to stop, then reporting over the radio that the driver had rammed the state police vehicle.

The pursuit then reversed direction, heading northbound on Old Ind. 37. Over the scanner, the trooper indicated he intended to attempt a PIT maneuver. Speeds were reported at about 78 mph, with little to no traffic in the area.

The pursued vehicle crashed at about 6:53 p.m. near Ind. 37 and Washboard Road, according to scanner traffic. A single occupant was reported trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive. Police called for fire and EMS to respond, and an accident reconstruction team was requested.

The driver had not been positively identified in scanner traffic, and The Bloomingtonian did not receive an official release detailing the incident.

A community member went to the area and photographed the scene, and shared the photos with the Bloomingtonian.

The Bloomingtonian will update this story if Indiana State Police or other responding agencies release additional details.
