Hazleton Area receiving $1M grant for access road project
HAZLETON – The Hazleton Area School District is receiving a sizable financial boost for a new access road at the Hazleton Area North Academic Campus.
PennDOT announced a $1M Multimodal Transportation Fund grant for the district.
District officials say the grant will be used to construct a new access road and bridge serving the Hazleton Area North Academic Campus in Hazle Township, which includes the Hazleton Area High School.
“This investment is a major step forward for our district and our community,” said Dr. Brian Uplinger, Superintendent of the Hazleton Area School District. “The new access road and bridge will significantly enhance safety and efficiency at the North Academic Campus while supporting future growth. The Hazleton Area School District extends its sincere thanks to Governor Josh Shapiro, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, and PennDOT for their leadership and support in advancing this important project.”
The project also received $850k in the same grant program in last February’s round.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports projects that improve transportation assets and promote economic development across the Commonwealth. This award reflects the Shapiro Administration’s focus on investing in safe, modern infrastructure that benefits students and communities alike.
Construction timelines and additional project details will be announced as planning progresses.
Elsewhere in the region, Kline Township is receiving a Multimodal Transportation Fund grant.
Their grant is for $240,901 to resurface local roadways.
