Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about ATM ‘jackpotting’ scheme

Residents in Aitkin County should be wary of ATM use, as the sheriff’s office says an ATM scam called “jackpotting” has been taking place.

According to the sheriff’s office, ATM jackpotting is a type of fraud where criminals illegally manipulate an ATM to force it to dispense large amounts of cash.

Jackpotting is reportedly done quickly and sometimes involves a large number of individuals working in tandem.

Individuals using an ATM should be on the lookout for others loitering around ATMs, people accessing ATM cabinets or equipment and vehicles parked near ATMs for no apparent reason while another uses the machine.

Residents who see something suspicious should call 911.
