Money Minute: Legacy fundMoney Minute: Legacy fund
As your family gathers this holiday season, Pete Eckerline with RBC Wealth Management says consider setting aside time to have a family chat about leaving a legacy fund for future generations.
He says having everyone together, kids included, can help keep it a light and easy discussion.
“This is while everyone is still there, and this isn’t on somebody’s deathbed, it’s to talk about ‘Hey, this is where we’re at, and these are the things that are important to us,” Eckerline notes.
Family elders can share where they hope any estate left behind goes, or maybe the family picks a giving gift together.
Regardless of where money goes, Eckerline says a planned discussion can help the younger generations know what’s an important legacy to leave behind. He adds that you could even invite a wealth manager to facilitate the meeting.
