Newark Tour Company Launches First Holiday Caroling Walk Through Forest Hill District

Four professional singers will guide a holiday caroling walk through the Forest Hill Historic District on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. This marks the first caroling tour hosted by the Newark tour company.

Songs will span Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Latin American traditions. The three-hour event includes music that reflects many celebrations. If rain or snow falls, the tour moves to Saturday, Dec. 27.

Tim Hoey started the tour company and knows the streets well. He’ll share stories about the houses and their past as the group moves through the district. Snacks and drinks will be available, plus a warming break at the midpoint.

“The holidays are a way for people to come together and celebrate the diversity that is among our strengths,” said Hoey, according to Patch. “We see this experience as an exciting way to build community while enjoying talented musicians singing songs that lift our spirits.”

St. Michael’s Medical Center, Commercial District Services, Mt. Prospect Partnership, and the Forest Hill Community Association sponsor the tour. Grace Church/Newark provided help with the music arrangements.

The walk begins at 510 Highland Ave. Participants will stroll decorated streets as singers perform seasonal music from different traditions across the globe.

Adults pay $10 per ticket. Kids ages 4 to 12 get in free when an adult brings them.

Registration happens online through Eventbee. The company built this event for families and designed it to showcase the district’s buildings and the many cultures that call it home.
