Officials: Be mindful of where you pile snow
SHENANDOAH – Borough officials and the fire companies are asking residents to be mindful of where they pile snow as winter weather hits the valley.
Mayor Andrew Szczyglak and Columbia Hose Chief Joe Boris both spoke on the subject at Monday’s Shenandoah borough council meeting.
“It’s that time of year again, I know parking is difficult, I know people are out shoveling their sidewalks and their parking spaces out, but you have to be respectful to everybody in the town,” Szczyglak said. “Don’t pile snow on the corners, so that the emergency vehicles can down alleys.”
He also said that officers will be enforcing vehicles parking too close to corners.
“I know it’s difficult because of the snow and parking, but please be respectful to everybody in the town,” the mayor said.
Borough Manager Mike Cadau also emphasized that snow shouldn’t be thrown in the streets and that residents should clear a path for borough workers to collect trash.
“Don’t expect the garbage man to crawl over,” Cadau said. He added that residents throwing snow into the street will be fined, too.
Boris echoed the concerns regarding snow piled on corners.
He added that the borough has smoke alarms available for residents.
“Just contact the borough,” Boris said.
