Slick spots from freezing drizzleSome pop-up freezing drizzle caused issues in spots during the Tuesday morning commute.

Tuesday morning wasn’t supposed to be a difficult travel time but a quick burst of freezing rain caused some issues across the Twin Cities metro.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office reported crashes and spin-outs “all over” in the Forest Lake area in the 7 o’clock hour.

Traffic cameras from the Minnesota Department of Transportation showed at least three crashes in a roughly three-mile stretch of Interstate 35 between Scandia Trail North and U.S. Highway 8 during that time.

The Minnesota State Patrol says it responded to three crashes in that area — one involving a spin-out, a second one involving five vehicles, and another crash that involved a school bus and a semi tanker where the semi rolled into the ditch. Amazingly, no injuries were reported from any of those, and there weren’t any students on the bus at the time.

Several other incidents were reported in the area during the morning commute. There weren’t any immediate reports of injuries.

Interactive radar from Minnesota’s Weather Authority shows a little pop-up of freezing rain between 6:30 a.m. and 8:50 a.m.

While that caused issues during the morning commute, there shouldn’t be any problems with travel for the rest of the day, as temperatures were already at 30 degrees by 9:45 a.m. and are expected to rise to around 40 with partly sunny skies later Tuesday.
