Marion County Quorum Court sends community center tax to March ballot

The Marion County Quorum Court met Monday evening and, after lengthy discussion, approved all measures tied to the proposed Marion County Community Center, clearing the way for voters to decide the future of the project in March.
Justices of the Peace passed three ordinances establishing a proposed 0.25% countywide sales and use tax to fund the community center and calling a special election for March 3, 2026. The meeting was scheduled as a special session to allow the attorney who drafted the measures to attend, following a conflict with the court’s regular meeting date.

In addition to advancing the community center proposal, the court approved several items from the County Judge’s office, including the 2026 county budget, updates to the personnel policy, allocations involving the Circuit Court Automation Fund and a transfer to the ARPA account.

JPs also adopted a county planning ordinance recommended by the Planning Commission and confirmed appointments to the Peel Fire Protection District Board, including Jim Harman and David Frellsen.

The sales tax initiative will now appear before Marion County voters on the March ballot.
