Sam Seamans leads busy Baxter County Coroner’s Office as modernization continues

Baxter County Interim Coroner Sam Seamans says the office is navigating one of its busiest periods while continuing long-term efforts to modernize death investigations in the county.Seamans, a longtime Mountain Home police officer and former chief deputy coroner, stepped into the role after the resignation of Bradley Hayes and will serve the remainder of Hayes’ unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2026.
As the county’s population grows, so does the workload. Seamans says it is difficult to cover a county of this size with only one or two staff members.

He noted how far the county has come from earlier years, when coroners had minimal training and few resources. In addition to adding staff, Seamans says the county has allocated more than $500,000 for the new coroner’s office.

Beyond his day-to-day responsibilities, Seamans hopes to use his time in office to share information about preventable deaths. He also encourages families to discuss end of life plans including funeral home preferences before emergencies occur.
