Human remains discovered in November have been identified as a man who was declared missing in 2019.
According to a press release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were discovered on Nov. 19 in a wooded area in the 1500 block of East St. Germain Street in Minden Township.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office said the Midwest Medical Examiner had positively identified the remains as Timothy Scott Strand, a man who was reported missing over six years ago.
Strand was reported missing on June 17, 2019, by his son, who became concerned when his father stopped communicating with his mother, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
Years later, on April 22, 2025, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office said they had received a credible tip that Strand had been staying in shelters in the St. Cloud area.
The sheriff’s office said it was unable to confirm if he had been staying in shelters, but learned he may have been staying at nearby encampments in St. Cloud under his middle name, “Scott.”
Minden is east of St. Cloud.
At this time, a cause of death has not been identified by the medical examiner, and the investigation into his death remains open.
