Kantata adds Avalara E-Invoice integration
Already, more than 80 countries have introduced E-Invoicing mandates across B2G (Business-to-Government) and, increasingly, B2B (Business-to-Business). That number is set to grow substantially by 2030.
Alongside the E-Invoicing mandates, countries are also introducing digital reporting capabilities. These include live reporting of invoice data and e-reporting of international sales and purchases. Without automation, these new regulations will make it onerous for professional services firms to maintain compliance. They need a centralised system for invoicing and reporting, integrated with their PSA solution or ERP.
There are several potential vendors on the market. Kantata already has an Avalara AvaTax connector that integrates with KantataSX. It was a logical choice to extend the partnership to the Avalara E-Invoicing and Live Reporting solution. The original partnership dates back to 2019, when it became (as Kimble Applications) an Avalara-certified partner.
Meg Higgins, SVP of Global Partners at Avalara, commented, “E-invoicing has become a global mandate, not a local checkbox, and businesses need scalable technology to keep up.
“Avalara’s AI-first vision turns compliance into a strategic advantage, reducing complexity and risk so businesses can scale with confidence. We’re proud to partner with Kantata, the first PSA vendor to offer Avalara-powered e-invoicing, to deliver next-generation capabilities to customers worldwide.”
The initial integration, like with AvaTax, will be for Kantata SX. It is unclear when the integration will be extended into Kantata OX, with the Canadian government encouraging businesses to adopt E-Invoicing as part of its efforts to modernise and streamline the invoicing process, and some E-Invoicing initiatives in the US. While it is not mandatory in either country, the inefficiencies are starting to show.
Kantata is working to integrate with Avalara using its API. Kantata customers can comply with mandates or connect to trading partners on other networks, such as Peppol, DBNAlliance, and NemHandel. The integration will include support for digital signatures, QR codes, and tax authority clearance and approvals.
Avalara supports transparent, transaction-based pricing for the service, with no activation of country-specific charges. As additional countries are added to the platform, customers will only pay for the increased transactions they create. The Avalara platform also enables organisations to register entities with E-Invoice exchange networks or tax authority platforms and activate mandate-specific workflows to simplify E-Invoicing.
Lucy Butterton, VP of Product Management at Kantata, commented, “As regulatory complexity accelerates, professional services organizations need more than point solutions — they need partners who anticipate what’s next.
“As the first PSA solution to collaborate with Avalara on E-Invoicing, we’re delivering advanced compliance capabilities that combine Kantata’s specialist PSA functionality with Avalara’s agentic tax and compliance expertise, empowering our customers to confidently navigate complex E-Invoicing regulations.”
Professional Services firms are increasingly realising that operating on spreadsheets is no longer viable to maintain growth. E-Invoicing is another example of compliance that is better dealt with through automation. It is that automation that the combination of Kantata SX and Avalara is offering.
Organisations considering the combination can be assured that, as a certified partner, Kantata has already met a series of criteria to ensure the connectors between the systems are performant and reliable. Customers can trust that data is secure and the workflows between the systems operate seamlessly.
Through the partnership, Kantata will help professional services organisations to better manage projects, resources, and financials. For those working internationally, E-Invoicing is becoming critically important to operate. The integration between the two systems will enable organisations to coordinate delivery and project finances.
While most Kantata OX customers are based in the US, several are not, and as E-Invoicing mandates increase, it will be interesting to see how quickly the integration is added to Kantata OX.
That Kantata opted to partner with Avalara is not surprising given the existing relationship between the two organisations. Also, the Kantata development team has experience working with APIs, which should have accelerated the deployment of this solution.
What will be interesting is to see where the integration is implemented and how quickly Kantata can offer a case study. This is a facility that other PSA vendors, if they do not have it already, may follow a similar path. Good news for Avalara.
