Google Unveils 10 New Gemini-Powered AI Features for Chrome

Google has unveiled its most significant upgrade to Chrome in the browser’s history, integrating advanced AI capabilities from Gemini to transform how users browse the web.

The announcement marks a pivotal shift in browser technology, with AI now embedded across multiple layers of Chrome to anticipate user needs, simplify complex information, and boost productivity while maintaining robust security standards.

Gemini Integration and Task Automation

The rollout of Gemini in Chrome begins today for Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S. with English language settings, enabling users to ask Gemini clarifying questions about any webpage content.

Gemini in Chrome is rolling out to all Mac and Windows users in the U.S.

The feature will expand to mobile users in the U.S., with iOS integration arriving soon. Businesses will gain access to Google Workspace with enterprise-grade data protection in the coming weeks.

Most notably, Google is introducing agentic capabilities in Gemini for Chrome that will allow it to autonomously handle repetitive tasks, such as booking appointments or placing grocery orders, with users maintaining complete control to stop actions at any time.

Recognizing that modern browsing often involves multiple tabs, Google has designed Gemini in Chrome to work across several webpages simultaneously.

This capability allows users to compare and summarize information across different sources, making tasks like vacation planning, such as consolidating flights, hotels, and activities, significantly more streamlined.

Additionally, users will soon be able to retrieve previously visited websites via conversational queries, eliminating the need for tedious history scrolling.

The system can understand contextual questions like “what was that blog I read about back to school shopping?” and instantly locate the relevant page.

Chrome’s address bar, or omnibox, now provides quick access to Google Search’s AI Mode, delivering more powerful AI-driven results directly from the browser.

Users can pose longer, complex questions and engage in follow-up conversations without leaving their current page.

The feature rolls out later this month in English across the U.S., with broader geographic and linguistic expansion planned for subsequent weeks.

Chrome also suggests contextual questions based on page content, providing AI Overviews in a side panel for seamless information discovery.

Security remains paramount in Google’s AI integration strategy. Gemini Nano, within Safe Browsing’s Enhanced Protection mode, expands scam detection capabilities to identify fake viruses and fraudulent giveaways, building on existing tech support scam detection.

Ai mode is now available right in your address bar

Chrome now uses AI to reduce unwanted notifications by approximately 3 billion per day on Android, learning user preferences to determine when permission requests should be presented less intrusively.

In a convenient advancement, the browser will soon allow users to reset compromised passwords with a single click on supported platforms, including Coursera, Spotify, and Duolingo.

Google has deepened the connection between Gemini in Chrome and popular Google services, including Calendar, YouTube, and Maps.

Users can schedule meetings, access location details, and perform other app functions without switching tabs.

For instance, users can ask Gemini to locate a specific moment in a YouTube video and be directed there immediately, creating a unified browsing experience that prioritizes efficiency and continuity across the Google ecosystem.

This comprehensive AI overhaul positions Chrome as a fundamentally reimagined browser, where artificial intelligence serves as an intelligent companion throughout the browsing journey.
