BLOOMINGTON, IND – December 8, 2025
BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – A heavily armed group in tactical gear marked “FBI” “raided” a unit at the Maxwell Terrace apartment at a Bloomington complex around 9 a.m. Monday, according to a Bloomingtonian reader who shared photos of the incident.
In the photos, multiple people in camouflage uniforms carrying black rifles can be seen moving between parked vehicles and staging near a stairwell before approaching an apartment door. A marked Bloomington Police Department SUV is also visible, with at least one BPD officer standing near the entrance to an apartment while the armed federal agents operate nearby.
One photo shows a pedestrian walking past the scene. Other images show a person wearing a black hoodie being led away in handcuffs by agents, who appear to escort the individual across the parking lot to an unmarked vehicle.
The tactical gear worn by the team is clearly labeled “FBI,” indicating the operation was being led by federal agents rather than a local police SWAT/CIRT team. Bloomington Police appear to have been present in a support or security role.
In past incidents, when the FBI has come to Bloomington to carry out a raid, BPD has typically assisted with securing the area but has referred all questions to federal authorities.
The Bloomingtonian will reach out to the FBI’s public information office for comment about Monday’s raid and to ask whether it was carried out under a court-ordered warrant. Federal agencies sometimes confirm that a warrant was executed, but they rarely release detailed information while an investigation is ongoing.
The reason for Monday’s operation remains unclear. In general, the FBI is called in to serve federal search or arrest warrants tied to criminal investigations—such as cases involving weapons, drugs, fraud, or other federal offenses—rather than civil immigration enforcement. Local police also are unlikely to be used in support of an ICE-only operation, making it more probable that Monday’s raid was related to a criminal investigation or federal warrant of some kind.
As of Monday afternoon, no agency had publicly explained why agents were at the complex or what charges, if any, the person taken into custody might face.
