SIOS adds new features to Lifekeeper in latest release
This is the first release in which SIOS has unified the timing for both Linux and Windows releases. It says it will continue to unify the product roadmaps in the future. In addition, the company has streamlined its product lineup and pricing strategy. That will make it easier for customers to engage and purchase everything they need in a single package.
Masahiro Arai, COO, SIOS Technology Corp., commented, “This release marks a critical step in SIOS’ strategy to empower IT administrators. Our focus is on how companies dramatically implement and manage HA/DR, making protection of mission-critical applications easier and more efficient than ever.”
“Based on feedback from customers and partners, we recognised that purchasing clustering software can be complex. We’ve streamlined the entire process and added an unprecedented level of transparency that customers and channel partners truly appreciate.”
The release includes the new Web Management Console as a standard feature. The new console has a web-based GUI and is similar across both Windows and Linux versions. It gives administrators an intuitive interface that offers complete visibility and control to manage their mission-critical high-availability and disaster-recovery configurations.
For organisations, especially MSPs that manage various operating systems, it will provide a consistent approach that reduces training requirements and increases efficiency.
Other enhancements include:
The Lifekeeper v10 product now consists of two elements. The first is the Core Package. It provides basic functions for disaster recovery. The second is an optional package that provides monitoring and recovery functions for various applications and middleware, as well as data replication.
The Lifekeeper v10 Core is provided as a permanent license with support services. There is also a 1-year subscription option with limited-time license usage rights and support service for the duration. Clients must select whether each server node requires a Linux or Windows license.
Optional packages vary per operating system. It will be interesting to see how SIOS unifies the products in the coming months.
That SIOS is working to provide uniformity across Linux and Windows OS versions is good news for organisations that leverage both operating systems. That is especially true for MSPs that may have clients using different operating systems.
The enhancements SIOS has rolled into this update also show that it continues to advance its applications to better support organisations and their HA/DR capabilities. It will be interesting to see how SIOS evolves the unification over the next few releases.
