New Richmond man to serve 14 years in prison for the murder of his wife

A New Richmond man was sentenced for the murder of his wife on Friday.

Gordon Charles Laakso, 71, was sentenced to 20 years, 14 of which he’ll serve in prison, followed by six years of extended supervision. He was given credit for 278 days already served.

Authorities conducted a welfare check on Mary Laakso after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

When police got to the Laakso home, they found Gordon Laakso but not Mary. Her body was later found in rural Polk County.
