‘Together, we make a difference’: Brandin’ Iron reflects on another successful veterans dinner

POINT, Ala. – The Brandin’ Iron Steakhouse in West Point has been hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner honoring local veterans for a decade. This year, the event took place Nov. 24.   

Brandin’ Iron Manager Josh Speakman said it was a communitywide effort, and he extended his deepest gratitude to everyone who supported and contributed to it.  

“To everyone who helped — your generosity, kindness and unwavering support made this event a tremendous success and demonstrated the true spirit of compassion and patriotism that defines our community,” he said. “Thanks to your donations and participation, we were able to provide a traditional, home-cooked meal to over 800 ‘in-house’ veterans and guests.”  

Speakman said it’s privilege to have hosted the event for the last 10 years and witness firsthand the show of gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country.  

“Your support not only fuels our efforts to honor and assist our veterans, but also reminds us all of the power of community coming together for a noble cause,” he said. “I want to thank my staff at The Brandin’ Iron Steakhouse, the great team from VFW and all the sponsors that make up our home team network for the tireless efforts preparing for this event. I also want to thank Brian and Misty Stricklin for allowing us to use the restaurant to host such an event and the West Point School for allowing us to use their kitchen facility to prepare and store the food.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support and for standing with us to honor our heroes. Together, we make a difference.” 

Speakman also wanted to thank Elizabeth Dye, owner of Elizabeth Dawn Photography, for volunteering her skills each year to capture the event.
