Faribault police step up school bus stop arm enforcement
Drivers blowing past school bus stop arms in Faribault is a problem that isn’t getting any better.
Police say the number of reported violations is up nearly 35% from 2024.

That’s why Officer Josh Sjodin says the department is launching “Operation Busted.” During the month of December, officers are going out to bus stops to meet with kids and their parents about the uptick in stop arm violations and to give them safety tips.
“To be able to tell them a little bit of awareness, look both ways to make sure those cars are stopping,” Sjodin said.
The Operation will also include increased police presence around bus stops to crack down on drivers who may be breaking the law.
Nick Jurrens, the principal at Jefferson Elementary School, says he’s been hearing more safety concerns about this from families.
“We want our kids to get here safely and get home safely,” Jurrens said.
Meanwhile, police hope drivers begin to take responsibility.
“If an accident happens or something and a child gets hurt, it’s a life-changing event for everybody, and we’re really trying to prevent that,” Sjodin said.
